The city of Puebla rests in its namesake valley surrounded by volcanoes and ice-capped mountains. It’s one of Mexico’s lesser -known destinations – a fact which belies the city’s rich heritage as one of the country’s most important colonial metropolises, and the birthplace of Cinco de Mayo! Explore the mysterious underground tunnel network of Puebla, which was only opened to the public in 2017. The tunnels were regarded as an urban legend until their recent rediscovery, and are sure to be full of enigmatic antiquities. Will you be the one to reveal the secrets of Puebla?

Full Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Puebla

Arrive in Puebla, and hop in your transfer toward your accommodation. After you check in, you will explore the magical towns of Zacatlán and Chignahuapan. Explore the beautiful Quetzalapan Waterfall and the Jilguero Canyon, view the murals of the pantheon, and enjoy a tasting of wines, ciders, and liquors in Zacatlán’s historic city center. You will then head to Chignahuapan, where you will tour a sphere factory, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, and the city’s historical center. Stay overnight in Puebla.

Day 2

Cholula

Get an early start, and be transferred to the Talavera de la Reyna. Learn all about the production of these beautiful and unique pieces of pottery, of which the city of Puebla has a large collection. You will then be transferred to Cholula, where you will visit the Temple of San Francisco Acatepec, the church of Santa Maria Tonantzintla, and the world’s largest pyramid, the Great Pyramid of Cholula. Transportation will then be provided to the International Baroque Museum. Located in the modern Angelópolis region, the museum celebrates and displays works from one of Western history’s most prolific periods.  Stay overnight in Puebla.

Day 3

Puebla

Enjoy a free morning in Puebla, and in the afternoon, get ready to discover the city’s secrets. Board your transfer to Los Secretos de Puebla, or the city’s historic network of underground tunnels and bridges that date back to the eighteenth century. Your guided visit will be lead by archaeologists who have worked on unearthing the mystery that laid in the tunnels below the city of Puebla. Once your tunnel tour is complete, you will be on your way to the city center where you will see several sites like the Palafoxiana Library and Museum, the Zócalo Cathedral, and the Chapel of the Rosary. Visit the historic Forts of May 5th, where the historic battle for the city was fought. Finally, move downtown to the Artist’s Quarter. No visit to downtown Puebla would be complete without a stroll around the Parian Craft Market, with its diverse collection of locally made ceramics,  pottery, textiles, and leather goods. After your tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel, where you will have free time at your leisure. Stay overnight in Puebla.

Day 4

Goodbye Puebla!

Enjoy your last morning in Puebla, and be transferred to the airport for your flight. End of program.

8-21 days prior to departure: 80% of the package price

0-7 days to departure – 100% of the package price
